The Mogadishu Mile was a route that was taken by United States Army Rangers and Delta Force soldiers from a UH-60 helicopter crash site to an appointed rally point held by the 10th Mountain Division on National Street during the Battle of Mogadishu on October 4, 1993.
The Mogadishu Mile began at 05:42 am and ended at 6:30am with many of the soldiers on foot under fire from small arms and RPGs with no cover.

U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Jerry Dwayne Patton, 40, died on Oct. 15, 2008, during High Altitude High Opening (HAHO) training. He was assigned to Army USSOCOM, and was preparing for deployment to Afghanistan.
He is survived by his wife, Molly; and sons, Chad, Cody, Chase and Connor.
